Quality design is equally as important as quality construction. Much of what makes a home energy efficient takes place in the design phase. Each site has particular natural features and characteristics, such as shape, slope, orientation, elevation, sun and wind dynamics, climatic trends, as well as special considerations such as being close to the sea for example.

Our Synergy Design framework ensures each Trilogy SmartHome is individually designed in accordance with the natural features of the site. Your home will be designed to maximise warmth from the sun in the winter, and to block heat and direct sun in the summer, in combination with natural cross ventilation. Window type, size and placement, as well as roof design, eaves size, thermal mass, thermal chimneys, and flexible living environments will be given special consideration.

Trilogy's High Performance Thermal Envelope

In order for a home to be comfortable and warm in the winter, and easily kept cool in the summer, it needs to be designed and built with a high performing thermal envelope, in combination with smart natural ventilation options that can be utilised when needed. The term 'thermal envelope' refers to the thermal performance of the shell of your home – the floors, exterior walls, windows, and roof. If these do not have sufficient insulating properties, the cold air outside will draw out the warmth you generate from heat sources inside your home. With energy prices estimated to continuously increase 6-8% per year, the energy efficient properties of Trilogy SmartHomes will provide real financial benefits in the years to come, by maximising natural free warmth from the sun.

Warm in the Winter

Trilogy's special design principles and techniques allow maximum penetration, absorption, and retention of the suns heat in colder months. This is then released within the home long after the sun has gone by what is know as 'thermal mass' features. Not only is this source of warmth absolutely free, but it is also the most comfortable form of heat for an indoor living environment. The high performing thermal envelope ensures that this free heat is retained within the home instead of being released into the cold air outside.

Cool in the Summer

The superior design and thermal properties of Trilogy's SmartHomes also keeps the heat out in the summer. Smart roof and eave design allow the sun to penetrate in the winter, but to be blocked from directly entering the home in summer months. Smart window and louvre design also provide maximum natural ventilation, making it easier and far cheaper to keep our homes cool and comfortable in the summer when it's hot outside.

Our unique energy efficient design does not cost any more than conventional home design, but provides our clients with a superior level of thermal comfort combined with significant ongoing energy cost savings. Sounds like good common sense, but conventional designers and architects do not design their houses to include these propoerties or beneifts.
